I want you to feel safe using this website.
On suculia.net, privacy is important. Maybe I am clingy and I online stalk my exes, but that is not what this website is about. It is not a ploy to steal your personal data. In fact, I am not even sure how to steal your personal data. And if I figured out how to steal it, I would not bother selling it, because I already waste enough time earning money at my day job.
I will do my best to ensure that this website is not invading your privacy, or causing your privacy to be invaded by third-parties. I am not a data security expert, but I try to follow best practices and all laws. This website is hosted in the United States, and it is required to comply with US law. I also support higher privacy standards where applicable. If you have any concerns or suggests, please feel free to reach out.
What personal data is collected and why
Comments
If you leave a comment on this site, your comment, name, and email are collected. Also, I am pretty sure your IP address and browser user agent string are collected to help spam detection. I am not doing anything with this information, but hopefully the spam-blocker plug-ins will. [Please do not submit spam comments.]
The name you enter will be published with your comment. Your email address is not displayed, and I do not care what it is, but I figured requiring you to type a name and email address made it slightly harder to submit spam.
According to the default privacy language: An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. At this point, there is not really a reason to upload images, but if there ever is, you might want to check for EXIF GPS or any other metadata that you do not want online.
Contact forms
As with comments, if you submit any information through a contact form, the form is collecting that information. (Duh.) Also probably your IP address and browser user agent string.
Cookies
When commenting on the site, you can opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
I reserve the right to use analytics to monitor activity on the site. I will try to do this in a non-intrusive way, ideally without causing your activity to be tracked for any other purposes. It is not set up yet, and when it is, I will update this privacy policy accordingly.
Who is your data shared with
Your data will only be available to plug-in services working on this site for the purposes identified above. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
How long your data is retained
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.
What rights you have over your data
If you have any questions or concerns about privacy or data that may have been collected or is maintained by this site, please reach out. You can request information on all personal data about you, and you can also request that I erase any personal data connected to you. The only exclusion is any data that must be kept for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
